March 2011 - IPv6 for CCNP
Presented by Scott Hogg, GTRI

Scott Hogg of GTRI was one of the main reviewers of the IPv6 section of the Cisco CCNP Route Study Guide and is intimately familiar of the goals of the Cisco Study material and will provide us insight into what you will need to know about IPv6.

Scott has a B.S. in Computer Science from Colorado State University, a M.S. in Telecommunications from the University of Colorado, along with his CCIE (#5133), CISSP (#4610), among many other vendor and industry certifications. He is currently the Chair of the Rocky Mountain IPv6 Task Force. Scott is also the author of the book titled IPv6 Security.

 

Sept 2010 - Security and The Evolving Threat Landscape
Presented by Scott Hogg, GTRI

Scott discussed the current state of Internet-based threat, pulling together GTRI's knowledge of the changing threats against enterprise organization's IT assets.

Scott has a B.S. in Computer Science from Colorado State University, a M.S. in Telecommunications from the University of Colorado, along with his CCIE (#5133), CISSP (#4610), among many other vendor and industry certifications. He is currently the Chair of the Rocky Mountain IPv6 Task Force. Scott is also the author of the book titled IPv6 Security.

 

July 2010 - Can You Spell VoIP - Lessons Learned from the IPT road
Presented by Ryan Determan, CCIE

Ryan shared his experience and techical details of multiple VOIP / IPT deployments. Ryan has been a CCIE for over 10 years, he is also a Cisco Certified Systems Instructor, CCVP, CCSP, CCDA, CCDP CCNA, and a CCNP.

Ryan has been operating as a Cisco consultant for companies such as CIGNA, Cendant, Fairfield resorts, Mandarin Hotels, Owens Corning, Siemens Business Services, The Children's Hospital and Exclusive resorts.

 

December 2009 - Shortest Path First Demystified
Presented by Jeff Doyle, Jeff Doyle and Associates, Inc.

Say "SPF Algorithm" and almost any network technologist will respond, "OSPF and IS-IS!" Everyone knows what he SPF algorithm is, by few can clearly describe how it works. Networking instructors will often dismiss it with a wave of the hand and some muttering about how complicated it is. In fact, the SPF algorithm is not complicated at all.

Specializing in IP routing protocols, MPLS, and IPv6, Jeff Doyle has designed or assisted in the design of large-scale IP service provider networks throughout North America, Europe, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and the People's Republic of China.

Jeff is the author of CCIE Professional Development: Routing TCP/IP, Volumes I and II; OSPF and IS-IS: Choosing an IGP for Large-Scale Networks; and is an editor and contributing author of Juniper Networks Routers: The Complete Reference. Jeff has presented numerous corporate seminars, and has spoken at NANOG, JANOG, APRICOT, IEEE/OWRA, QUESTnet, and IPv6 Forum conferences worldwide.

 

November 2009 - Virtual Switching System
Presented by Tim Clegg, Global Technology Resources, Inc.

Tim provided us a very comprehensive presentation on Virtual Switching System, including components, hardware and software requirements, Virtual Switch Link (VSL), installation and best practices.

 

Sept 2009 - Highly Available WAN Design
Presented by Adam Groudan, Communications Architect, Cisco Systems.

The specific technologies discussed include bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD), first hop redundancy protocols (including HSRP & GLBP) as deployed at the WAN edge, IP SLA with object tracking, and path optimization techniques supported through Performance Routing (formerly Optimized Edge Routing).

 

July 2009 - XMedius Fax
Hugh Sanderson has over 12 years experience in the fax server, Fax Over IP, Document Management, and Workflow industries, supporting customers and channel partners across the Western US.

His presentation on The Facts on Fax, why Fax Over IP should be included in a IP Telephony deployment is available below, along with answers to follow-up questions asked during the meeting.

 

March 2009 - IPS
Gary presented a technical presentation covering IPS deployment designs and general troubleshooting techniques. This is a subset of the presentation he gives each year at Cisco Live. The presentation will focus on IPS 6.1 and 6.2 software, while also discussing differences between IPS software versions.

Gary Halleen is a Security Consulting Systems Engineer with over 17 years experience in host and network security. Gary is the author of "Security Monitoring with CS-MARS" and a technical editor of "Intrusion Prevention Fundamentals", both published by Cisco Press. His diligence was responsible for the first successful computer crimes conviction in the state of Oregon. Gary is a regular speaker at Cisco Networkers conferences.

 

February 2009 - IOS Router Security
We covered a variety of IOS router security technologies, including Cisco SDM, IOS & Zone-Based Firewall, Client & Site-to-Site VPN, SSL, Dynamic Multipoint & GET VPN, Secure Desktop & AnyConnect VPN Clients and IPS.

Russell has over 12 years of experience in the field of networking. He has delivered courses for SLI, formerly CCTI, for nine years, teaching all of the courses in the CCNA and CCNP track, security courses, content networking, IPv6, BGP, and several voice courses. Russell's industry certifications include Cisco Systems CCSI, CCNA, CCNP, and CCSP.

 

October 2008 - Wireshark & Cacti
Jon Saunders is the CIO for Southeast Colorado Power Association (SECPA) and the General Manager for SECOM, the telecommunications division of SECPA. He has been doing full-time IT/Telecommunications for 13 years working on all types of networks from small ones to large ones with over 1800 nodes. He has the following certifications: Microsoft MCSE, Novel CNE, Cisco CCNA and CCDA. 

Mr. Saunders will be talking about Wireshark, an open source packet sniffer and will give an overview of how a packet sniffer such as Wireshark can help you maintain your network. He will also be talking about Cacti, another open source product that you can use to graph and monitor network activity.

Mark is the Senior Manager for Cisco TAC and is joining us to share his knowledge on how to best utilize this essential Cisco resource. Cisco's Technical Assistance Center provides 24x7 support by utilizing engineers across the globe, and is the backbone of Cisco's support services.

 

April 2008 - IPv6 Security
Presented by Scott Hogg, GTRI
Aside from being the Director of Advanced Technology Services at GTRI, and frequent presenter at RMCUG, Scott is also the currently the Chair of the Rocky Mountain IPv6 Task Force, and has spent the past 7 years researching IPv6 technologies and assisting federal organizations with IPv6 planning.

Scott's presentation includes security issues related to IPv6, and protective measures to guard against threats to ensure a secure deployment of IPv6 technology.

2012 Rocky Mountain
IPv6 Summit - April 9-12

The Rocky Mountain IPv6 Summit is the largest annual IPv6 event in North America. This event is designed to educate and update you on the current state of IPv6 adoption.

Attendees will learn about what other organizations are doing to prepare for the migration to IPv6 and learn from those who are already utilizing the benefits of IPv6. You will collaborate with colleagues who are actively working on IPv6 research and implementation and learn about IPv6 technology from industry experts.
